This small conference is aimed at gathering a community of people interested in software development
who are concerned about the current push towards handing more and more work over to "AI"
and thereby making software even less humane than it was before.
From our point of view using hyperscaled Generative AI
is clearly unethical.
Thus, an Anti GenAI stance is important,
but it's not the only concern we have with the inhumane state of most software.
What does "The Last Coder" stand for?
It is a reference to Ben H. Winters' science fiction trilogy The Last Policeman.
Therein a detective investigates a suicide he believes was a murder,
while the world is falling apart under the threat of an asteroid hitting earth within half a year.
Wikipedia writes:
Winters describes the work as an "existential detective novel", turning on the question of why people do things in spite of their long-term unimportance.The software world - and related disciplines - are also going through an existential crisis, and not everybody is willing to concede the future to the proponents of "inevitability".

- The conference will mostly be open-space covering these topics, but we're also looking for a few scheduled, intriguing talks, presentations and session formats.
